Sister Jade Hughlett (Hodge Park Ward) recently returned from the Utah St George Mission where she served in the Visitor’s Center. Sis Hughlett said during her 18-months as a missionary she was able to give tours to a lot of different people from all around the world. Sis Hughlett shared about one friend she taught on her mission named Angie who made a huge impression on her.

“She joined the Church but still struggled with different challenges,” Sis Hughlet said. “She told me to tell people about her story. She said that in life she had a whirlwind of emotions, but that she would always turn back to Jesus Christ. She said she would always remember him in her hardships and that he was the person that got her through. She is an example that I need to turn to Jesus Christ.”

During her mission in St George, Sis Hughlett said that her testimony flourished.

“Many times on my mission people would bash us about Joseph Smith. I would always turn to Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon. President Nelson said that if you read the Book of Mormon every day you will be blessed…and I was. My testimony of Joseph Smith grew. You really have to build a firm foundation in Joseph Smith and in simple things of the gospel.”

During her mission Elder Jeffery R. Holland, who had direct ties to St George, passed away.

“He had a strong connection to St. George, so as missionaries we had a chance to help [in the procession when he was buried.] We lined outside the temple and sang [the hymn] Amazing Grace, the one he spoke about in his last talk. The feeling we got when the apostles drove past us…it was indescribable. These men are selfless and they sacrifice their time and talents to build up the kingdom of God on this earth. I know that they are called of God. Jesus Christ calls these men (and sister leaders) to help Jesus Christ work on the earth.”

To youth who are considering a mission, Sis Hughlett had this advice: “The House of the Lord really is an amazing place. If you can’t go inside, go to the grounds. I also realized how important priesthood blessings are. They are blessings of comfort. I would encourage youth to seek them for direction and comfort.”
